Question: How do I use my generator inlet now that I’ve lost power to the house?
Answer:
First, the main breaker needs to be switched to the “off” position. The generator breaker, identified in the panel, needs to be switched to the “on” position. Then you can start your generator.
Current electrical code in certain jurisdictions requires installation with an Interlock. This is a safety device which prevents accidentally leaving the main breaker in the “on” position. We highly suggest installation of the Interlock if you don’t currently have one, to prevent power from the generator being sent back through the power lines with potential catastrophic injury to lineman.
